I think teaching children their address and phone number is very important. It is proven that we learn best when information is put into a song. Here is a simple but catchy song to teach your child their address. If you missed my song for teaching children your phone number, you can check it out here.

The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.

ADDRESS SONG VIDEO

SONG TO TEACH CHILDREN THEIR ADDRESS

The tune of this song is the same as the beginning of B-I-N-G-O. Check out my video above to hear me actually singing it. Here’s how it goes….

There was a girl
Her name was Jamie
And this is where she lived

Two zero nine nine two
Two zero nine nine two
Two zero nine nine two

On Lexington in Los Angeles

Just like the phone number song, my daughter frequently requests we sing this song when we’re in the car. It is very catchy.

ADDRESS SONG ACTIVITY

To back this song up, you can point out a few addresses to your child and then have them start pointing them out to you. It works either in the car or on a walk. Once they start to notice them, they’ll point them out everywhere!

Next you’ll want either queue up some apps/websites or pull out a map and globe. Show your child exactly where on your street your house is located, then where your street is located in your town. Keep zooming out as you show them your county, state, country, continent, hemisphere, and then our planet. This activity will show them that your house is the ONLY house in the world with your exact address, and it will help them understand the significance of it.

MAILING ADDRESS ACTIVITY

Another great activity is to discuss how the mail works with your child, and then put it into action. It’s great if you can have your child mail something to your home from somewhere else, and then also mail something recognizable from your home TO somewhere else. A close family member or friend would be a great place to mail to/from. Showing them that the post office and mail carrier use your address to locate your house to bring your mail can be very eye opening.
