In this post I’m sharing how to decorate an Easter basket. Basically we’re going to spruce up a store bought basket to turn it into a beautiful Easter basket to reuse year after year.

Supplies to decorate an Easter Basket

Easter is a beautiful time of year. The beginning of Spring, the weather warming, and all the fun festivities that this lovely holiday encompasses make me smile.

I got together with a group of ladies who all share videos of their Easter ideas, so don’t forget to check out the video and follow the link to that playlist! So many great ideas and so much inspiration! You can open the video in YouTube (so it is interactive) HERE.

HOW TO CHOOSE AN EASTER BASKET

How to choose an Easter Basket

First you need to choose an Easter basket. In our family, we supply the Easter Bunny with a basket. The Easter Bunny fills it and hides it for the children to find Easter morning. So that means we want a good quality basket that we can reuse for a couple decades, and it makes it worth the time and effort it takes to make it gorgeous and personalized. I always choose a sturdy wicker basket. I love the traditional look of it, and I love that they are sturdy enough to hold heavier items. For example, one of my daughters will be getting rain boots in her basket this year (more on that in another post coming soon).

TIP: For storage of these big ol’ things, you can nest the baskets together, and then use the interior of the top basket to store other Easter items such as decorations. This way saves a ton of space.

I purchased my girls’ baskets previously, but here’s a link to a nice one I found at Michael’s. They tend to have some good options, as does Home Goods. I’m not sure what Hobby Lobby has, but I would bet they have some good choices too.

Next you’ll need something to decorate your basket with. I chose some flowers and butterflies. I do my best to source everything where I can link it for you guys, but unfortunately this project has been a few years in the making. So although I cannot link you directly to where I purchased my items, I’ve done the leg work and found some very similar items for you. Here are the links.

Figure out a loose plan of how you want to arrange the flowers, and get going! Use the floral wire (and a pair of wire snippers) to secure them around your basket’s handle. You can also use the wire to secure the butterflies and any other decorations you may want to include. A ribbon bow can be a pretty addition.

I prefer using the wire over using a hot glue gun. Over the years things that are glued on can get bumped off pretty easily. If things are tied on with wire the worst that happens is they get bent the wrong way, so they are easily tweaked back into place.

He hides them at my house. Gotta do a little work for all those goodies.
