NON CANDY EASTER BASKET IDEAS
I have a 1 year old and a 4 1/2 year old. Below you’ll find my non candy and non junk ideas for each of their Easter baskets.
WHAT TO PUT IN AN EASTER BASKET FOR TODDLERS
My 1 year old has received a ton of hand-me-downs from my older daughter. There truly isn’t much that she needs. Her Easter Basket consists of replacements for worn out items, additional items that we now need more of with 2 girls using them, and non candy consumables. Here are my non candy Easter Basket ideas for toddlers.
This adorable LADY BUG SNACK CUP has a closing lid that flips open to access a secondary lit that allows little hands to go in and grab snacks, but keeps the snacks from spilling out everywhere. The whole top part screws on, so your child won’t be able to easily pull it off like some other brands. They come in all sorts of cute animals like this lady bug, a bumble bee, a monkey, owl, etc.
This STAINLESS STEEL SIPPY CUP BY THERMOS keeps ice water icy on a hot day. But most importantly, it doesn’t seep chemicals into the water if you let it sit in the car on a warm day! These don’t leak. They’re easy enough for children to open, and there is a straw to drink out of.
I’m getting my girls matching SWIMSUIT/RASH GUARDS. They love it and I love it, and with how the sizes run I think my days of easily finding them matching clothes are limited. This particular one has a rash guard on top (to help prevent sunburn when we’re out having too much fun) and a bottom with ruffles on the butt!!!
This is an ORGANIC FRUIT POUCH with a rabbit on it. My toddler eats a ton of fruit pouches when we’re on the go. I spent a little extra money to get the cute one with the rabbit instead of buying whatever was on sale like I normally do. Easy peasy.
So technically my toddler is probably too old for PUFFS. She can chew quite well. BUT she love them, so the Easter Bunny is going to indulge her. I’m going to be honest – they’re great for when she’s fussing in her car seat. If my husband is driving I’ll slowly feed these to her to keep her distracted, and they dissolve quickly enough that I don’t worry much about her choking. Sometimes I’ll also drop a little pile on our bench in the kitchen to keep her busy and tide her over while I finish up dinner. They don’t fill her up, but they’re fun to snack on.
Look at these CUTE SOCKS!!! They have “critters” all over them. My toddler has a bunch of hand-me-down socks, but a lot of them have seen better days. This is a practical purchase, but also one so cute I’m excited about them!
We love this BUBBLE BATH. First, it’s rated a 2 (out of 10) on the Think Dirty app, so that means it’s not very toxic. Johnson & Johnson’s bubble bath scores an 8! So that’s something you can feel good about. Also, IT REALLY BUBBLES! Some of these more natural bubble baths don’t bubble up very much. This one is pretty good, and the smell is great.
WHAT TO PUT IN AN EASTER BASKET FOR PRESCHOOLERS
My 4 1/2 year old truly doesn’t need much either. We are lucky enough to have friends and family that spoil us for birthdays and Christmas, and really my goal is to have less stuff in general anyway for the whole family. So these items are all things that will truly get used, and many of them consumables that get used up. Here are my non candy Easter Basket ideas for preschoolers.
Here’s the matching SWIMSUIT/RASH GUARD just like the one I’m getting for my toddler. It’s exactly the same with the ruffles on the bum. I know my daughter will be SO EXCITED to get the exact same one as her sister so they can match.
We already have one of THESE SIPPY CUPS and love it. It’s almost just like drinking out of a regular cup since you can drink out of any side and have to tilt the cup up instead of sipping through a straw. BUT it doesn’t leak or spill all over! I should note that if you have a child that likes to throw their cup, some liquid will come out on impact, but it will immediately stop leaking after it hits the floor. Again, I love that it’s stainless steel so I don’t have to worry about the water sitting in there in the heat, and it keeps things cool in the summer.
My daughter is going to love love love these RAIN BOOTS. Ever since watching Peppa Pig she’s had a thing for splashing in any puddle she can find. She doesn’t discriminate based on size or muddiness of the puddle either. I should have bought these earlier. I bought a size up and I’m crossing my fingers that they fit this year and next year, and that it rains a little more this year here in So Cal.
My daughter loves bath bombs, but I hate when the bath water is so saturated with dye, fragrance and whatever else that it leaves a residue on her. I went with the MINI BATH BOMBS hoping they won’t pack such a punch. She’ll still be happy because they’ll still do their fizzy thing.
I’ve been using THIS TOOTHPASTE for awhile and I’ve really come to love it. It ranks a 3 (out of 10 – the lower the better/less toxic) on the Think Dirty app, which is better than regular Crest at a 5. It took a little getting used to because it is coconut instead of mint, but I’ve come to really like it. My mouth still feels clean and my breath isn’t stinky even though there’s no mint. I no longer have my box, but I’m 95% sure it doesn’t say “harmful if swallowed” like most toothpaste boxes do. WHAT? Harmful if SWALLOWED?!! This is a product that’s made to go in your mouth. I was shocked when I first saw that on my toothpaste box, and that’s what started my journey to finding something more natural and less scary.
And if we’re doing toothpaste, it’s only natural to include some TOOTHBRUSHES too. These have suction cups on the end. My daughter likes to stick her toothbrush to the tile wall when she’s done as her cute little way of letting me know she’s brushed her teeth that day. I don’t mind putting it away for her. It’s our thing.
BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS. We love books in our house. I miss reading fiction novels now that I’m a momma, but I’m excited that my older daughter is getting old enough to slowly start introducing some of my favorite stories from my childhood to her. This is for young children and is based on the beginning of Anne of Green Gables.
I’m also going to include of few of my DIY FLOWER PENS. My daughter has been trying to keep them all for herself, but I’ve been resisting because I wanted a “bouquet” of them to display. Since I know it will make her so happy, and because they look so pretty in an Easter Basket, I’m going to include a couple of these pens for her to do with as she pleases.
And finally, I’ll add in some snacks. But not a bunch of junk. I’ll just put in things I normally let her eat, but instead of filling a ziplock from the Costco bag, I’ll spend the extra little bit to get the cute packages. Examples would be the mini milk carton of goldfish or a small bag of dried cranberries from Trader Joe’s.
HOW TO AVOID SPENDING A BUNCH OF EXTRA MONEY ON NON CANDY EASTER BASKETS
Here’s the best tip I can give you. It will help you come up with ideas for your baskets, and help you avoid breaking the bank.
Fill your Easter Baskets with things you were going to buy anyway!!
If you can start shopping a few weeks to a month before Easter it will help you think up things to slowly collect. That gives you time to come up with great ideas AND spreads the spending out over a little time so you won’t notice it as much.
Most of the items in my girls’ baskets were things I was going to purchase anyway. They needed new swimsuits for summer, we need more sippy cups now that my toddler is using them, socks, toothpaste and toothbrushes are staple items, healthier snacks that they already eat regularly (wow that Easter Bunny sure knows what you like!). Stick with things you would have had to purchase over the next couple of months and you won’t actually be spending any extra money. You can put beautiful and thoughtful Easter Baskets together this way for next to nothing.

Great post! I do the same thing, stuff that they need anyway, we do this for Valentine’s day and Christmas stockings too. The items you showed are so cute!

Thanks Jenn! Yes – I think it’s the only way to go. Otherwise you’ve spent a ton of money on a bunch of stuff nobody really wants or needs!

Too bad she needed socks already
