Use this phone number song to teach your children your telephone number in a way they’ll NEVER forget it! I have a great phone number song with a fun phone number activity to back it up!
What’s the best way to teach children something that is tedious to memorize?? A fun song – that’s how! Make your phone number unforgettable and teach them how to use it with this phone number song and fun phone number activity!
I’ll give you my phone number. When you worry, call me. I’ll make you happy.

PHONE NUMBER SONG VIDEO
PHONE NUMBER SONG
The tune for this phone number song is Frère Jacques, also known as Brother John. You can check out my video (above) to hear us singing it, but here’s how it goes when you adapt it for the phone number (and of course, this is a fake phone number for the purposes of this post).

Green Means Go
Green Means Go
At first you will be singing this like a repeat song. Eventually your child will take over the lead and you will be the one repeating, and then they’ll be able to do it all on their own! Phone number memorized!
The reason it says “green means go” is because almost every phone (cell phones + cordless landlines) has a “send” or “call” button colored GREEN. If this doesn’t apply to your phones, you could easily replace this portion with the words “momma’s phone” or “daddy’s phone” or whatever fits your situation.
PHONE NUMBER SONG ACTIVITY
This phone number activity is a great way to familiarize your child with a number pad in a fun way! It’s also the perfect opportunity to teach things like dialing a “1” before the phone number, and to discuss the “send” or “call” buttons and where they are located and how they look on different phones.
Anyway, you basically draw a hopscotch on the ground, but lay it out exactly like the keypad on the phone including the * and # keys. (Sidenote: I still call # the “pound” key, but I think there will be a whole bunch of people in the near future who know it as the “hashtag” key. Isn’t that wild?)
While singing your phone number song, have your child hop around on the dial pad hopscotch and get familiar with the location of the numbers.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE YOUR PHONE NUMBER SONG AND DIALING
And last but not least, have them CALL YOU! Do this over and over again, until they are very comfortable with using the phone. They will be delighted to push some numbers on a device and see the direct reaction that it makes your phone ring! Use another phone to have them dial on of course. 😉
